MOTION FOR APPROPRIATE RELIEF IN NORTH CAROLINA

In North Carolina Traffic Court, A Motion for Appropriate Relief or MAR for short, is  when the Court allows a case to be reopend and we argue for a different outcome then what was originally entered.  The most common scenarios are when a person just pays their infraction on the internet or mails in their payment. This results in them pleading guilty to the offense.  Depending on the offense and that persons driving record, it can result in up to a 12 month license suspension.   Another common example is when a person goes to court on their own, without retaining an attorney, and they accept the deal that is offered to them by the Assistant District Attorney.  Without knowing the law, blindly accepting a plea deal can have severe consequences on your ability to drive and one's insurance rates.

If you have accidently accepted a a plea deal, or have paid off a ticket and it has negatively affected you, please contact our office.
